Description

The Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society was founded in October 1998 with the aim of performing high quality musical theatre in Cambridge. CUMTS is devoted exclusively to Musical Theatre, providing scope for you to try your hand at all aspects of production: we welcome performers, orchestral players, directors, choreographers, musical directors, producers, technical directors and more.

As a society, we aim to produce quality musicals in various venues around Cambridge, mostly performing at the ADC Theatre but also Corpus Playroom and even some May Balls! Previous productions include: , ‘A Chorus Line’ (2018), ‘Chicago’ (2019), 'Company' (2022), 'Chess' (2022) 'Sunday in the Park with George' (2023) and 'Spring Awakening' (2023). Every year we also take an original musical to the Edinburgh Fringe where we have had many successful runs with productions such as ‘Six’ (now on West End and Broadway), ‘Rust’, winner of the Best Musical at The Fringe 2019, and On Your Bike, winner of Best Musical at The Fringe 2021.

Throughout the year we host 3 Bar Nights a term, all with a different theme. This gives performers in Cambridge an opportunity to display their talents in a relaxed and supportive environment as an alternative to a full run of a musical.

There are many ways to get involved in so many different areas and, at whatever level of commitment you want to make. We would love to hear from you! CUMTS is a society that not only enables people to be involved in, and learn and gain experience from productions but it also provides the perfect setting to meet new faces outside of college. More than any other genre of theatre, musicals provide the perfect atmosphere for socialising and having fun whilst creating a disciplined and inspiring production. We pride ourselves on the professional quality of our shows, but we are just as keen to provide the friendly and encouraging support needed for our members to enjoy musical theatre work in Cambridge!

As the society continues to grow, and more opportunities become available for our members, we are gaining a reputation as one of the largest, most successful, and highly regarded student musical theatre societies in the country.
